EAMON MCGEE IS HOPEFUL that Gaoth Dobhair can make a shape at adding to their 15 Donegal SFC titles this year – ten years after their last success.
Yesterday in Magheragallon Gavin McBride and Kieran Gillespie netted the goals in the second half as Gaoth Dobhair overcame Four Masters 2-12 to 1-9.
Gaoth Dobhair were last kings in 2006 when Stephen Cassidy’s goal took them over the line against St Eunan’s.
Last year, Gaoth Dobhair didn’t get out of their Championship group, but with maximum points so far in the League they began their SFC bid yesterday with a deserved win.
“We’ve gone a wee bit flat in Championship and we had to address that,” McGee told Donegal Sport Hub.
“There was a wee spring, a wee upward curve there.
“We stuttered a wee bit, but we kept at it. We kept the head down and the young have injected pace and freshness into it. There’s a good blend and we have to be positive for the future.
“There has been question marks over players, myself included, but it’s about getting lads to buy into it. It’s about getting the right balance.”
[adrotate group=”55″]Gaoth Dobhair have Naomh Conaill and Termon to face, whenever the Championship resumes, but they’ve a bit between the teeth this time after the ignominy of last year.
McGee said: “It was a big blow that a team of that calibre and ability didn’t get out of the group. It was disappointing when you know the quality and depth we have. The players have bought into it and are putting the drive in.”
