STEPHEN KENNY APPEARED almost sympathetic to Finn Harps after seeing his Dundalk score a landslide 7-0 win at Finn Park last night.
Dundalk have won the League title in each of the last two season and Kenny’s team are well poised to make it three-in-a-row, even at this early juncture.
Kenny, who lives in Fahan, was pleased to see a ruthless edge to his team, as they kicked Harps repeatedly.
“I think that’s the nature of the game,” Kenny told Donegal Sport Hub.
“All of the players want to score. It’s no disrespect to Finn Harps. They drew with Bohemains and Derry in two dramatic finales.
“They had their regular players available and they were strong on paper. We wanted to apply ourselves well and to have a level of professionalism to come up with the hunger.
“We were able to do that. It’s not one we take for granted. We expected a difficult game because Finn Harps have had some great results in recent weeks and they’ve had a very good start to the season.
“It’s just one of those situations. It happens to us all at some stage.”
The Lilywhites led 4-0 at the break. Robbie Benson broke the deadlock after only five minutes and it was one-way traffic from then on.
“It was just a goal of the month collection,” Kenny said with Daryl Horgan’s goal, Dundalk’s third, worth the admission money alone.
“Some of the goals were outstanding. They deserve credit for some of the skill. They were excellent. Daryl Horgan’s goal was an absolutely special goal.”
Dundalk are six points clear of Cork and Kenny’s team are ten in front of joint-third placed Derry City and Shamrock Rovers.
A two-horse race, then, between Dundalk and Cork?
“It’s very early in the season to draw that conclusion,” Kenny said.
