JOHN O’MALLEY ADMITTED to being ‘cranky’ at half-time in last night’s Donegal Minor League semi-final – but eventually saw his Naomh Conaill prevail.
They’d been deadlocked, 2-9 to 3-6, at the break.
“We were a bit cranky after conceding three goals in the first half,” O’Malley said. “It was score-for-score. The minors is great; it’s good, honest football.
“Both sides played good attacking football.
“St Michael’s have a lot of good players and we knew that. We knew we’d have to keep pegging on. St Michael’s were actually ahead before we turned it around late in the first half.”
Cian Gallagher’s goal just before half-time brought Naomh Conaill level and Eoghan McGettigan cracked to the net three minutes into the second half to put them in front.
McGettigan had a fabulous night with 4-3 to his name. It might have ended with a sending off for a second booking, but his performance up to that had been stunning.
O’Malley said: “He was on fire. He’s electric with serious pace and he’s great off either foot. He works so hard. He’s a fantastic player. On his day, he’s as good as what’s out there.”
