A LETTERKENNY WOMAN will represent the Republic of Ireland at the 2016 European Ladies Snooker Championships in Lithuania next month.
Annette Pearson (above right) has qualified for the EBSA (European Billiards & Snooker Association) Championships after coming through an Irish qualifying event at the weekend.
In Carlow, Pearson along with Paula Judge from Dublin won the qualifying event at the Ivy Rooms Snooker Club in Carlow.
They will form an Irish team for next month’s European Championships, while the players will also take part in the single’s competition.
“It’s not everyone that gets to represent their country so it’s a great honour, Pearson, well known locally from her work in the Glencar Inn, told Donegal Sport Hub.
“It’s a big achievement and I’m really looking forward to it. I don’t know what to expect, but it’s brilliant to get the chance to go away like this and represent Ireland.
“There is also the chance, if we do well, to get to another tournament that’s held in Thailand so it’s a big opportunity.”
Pearson only took up snooker to aid with her preparations for local pool tournaments.
“Snooker just helped with my potting really, it was only a bit of craic, but Anthony Bonner was looking for people to enter the RIBSA (Republic of Ireland Billiards & Snooker Association) qualifiers and I did it,” Pearson said.
“The All-Ireland Pool Championships are on the first weekend of June. The snooker was just practise for those and now I won’t actually make the Pool Championships because I’ll be in Lithuania.”
Pearson plays snooker out of the North West Snooker Club on the Port Road in Letterkenny.
