DONEGAL OVERCAME MONAGHAN yesterday in the Nicky Rackard Cup in Inniskeen and can now look forward to a semi-final against Mayo.
Donegal 4-14 Monaghan 3-14
In a contest that ebbed and flowed, in the end goals from Ciaran Mathewson, Ronan McDermott, Kevin Campbell and Lee Henderson were vital for Ardal McDermott’s side.
A goal from Monaghan’s Pat Treanor levelled the scores just short of the 25th minute, 1-4 for Monaghan to Donegal’s 0-7.

But Matthewson goaled for Donegal to give them a one-point lead, 1-7 to 1-6.
The second half was a much more open affair and it was Donegal who were in the driving seat having gone 11 points in front with McDermott and Campbell finding the net.
Then, Henderson’s goal from a free made it 3-12 to 1-9.

But when Mark Callaghan picked up a second yellow card, Monaghan pushed their way back into the contest with goals from Tadhg Campbell and Stephen Lambe.
But late scores from Niall Campbell and Niall Cleary won it for Donegal and while they play Mayo in the semi-final in two weeks time, Armagh will square off with Fingal in the other last four tie.
