SHANE BYRNE REMAINS confident that his Glengad United won’t have their grip on the Jackie Crossan Premier Division crown loosened.
First, though, Glengad – the defending champions – are three behind Clonmany and play their game in hand this Sunday, away to their derby rivals Culdaff.
“It’s still all there,” Byrne told Donegal Sport Hub.
[adrotate group=”37″]“We’ll have to regroup and see what we can get out of Sunday. It’s tight. They’re a strong group. We’ll go out and go down there confident that we can get a result.
“Culdaff will put it up to us, but we just have to knuckle down for Sunday.
“This group has been through a right bit. We were away to Castlebar, were 3-1 down and won 4-3; at Aungier Celtic we were 2-1 down and won 3-2. There is great character in this team and a never-say-die attitude there.”
Byrne was keen to point out that his side has been beaten only once in the League this year – a 1-0 loss to Clonmany at The Crua in December.
Glengad had a litany of chances against Buncrana – 25 to be precise – but couldn’t find a way through.
“You can’t miss that many chances and win games,” Byrne said.
“We have no-one to blame but ourselves. We had all the possession. We were never under pressure, we were camped in their area. When you don’t take those chance, it’ll come back and bite you on the backside.”
Christy Fildara and Adam Byrne are injured and Glengad lost Michael Byrne to a straight red card in the 87th minute meaning he’ll miss Sunday’s game at Caratra Park.
“There were a lot of tired legs and they’re mentally tired there too,” their manager said.
