IT’S THAT TIME of the week again, where you get the chance to vote for your Anthony Conaghan Cars Donegal Sport Hub for Player of the Week.
Well done to Steve McDaid from Termon, who was the winner of last week’s vote.
This week there were some impressive outings for both college, club and county so have a look at the options below, cast you vote below and then we’ll tell you on Friday evening who you chose to be the Anthony Conaghan Cars Player of the Week.
So here’s your options:
1 Matthew McClean (Kilcar)
KILCAR are flying of late and the Towney side put up another big score on Sunday as they defeated Ardara 4-16 to 1-10. Matthew McClean was the pick of their lot here. Nine minutes into the second half, McClean goaled from close range and added four points in a Man of the Match display.
2 Stephen Mulligan (MacCumhaill’s)
MULLIGAN is a player on fire at the moment. Seven days after scoring nine points against St Naul’s, the MacCumhaill’s sharp-shooter went better again on Sunday, scoring 3-5 as the Twin Towns men defeated Naomh Columba 3-11 to 2-10. Mulligan netted the opening goal when he showed superb strength to hold off his man and fire home and he landed a hat-trick with two more clinical finishes to continue his red-hot streak.
3 Deirdre Foley (Carndonagh and Donegal ladies)
‘IN the form of her life’ was how Micheál Naughton, the Donegal senior ladies manager, described Carndonagh native Deirdre Foley after Donegal defeated Cavan 0-13 to 0-6 in Saturday’s Division 2 semi-final in Beragh. The flame-haired Foley was outstanding for Donegal. On a day when they had to battle, Foley – a Ladies Higher Education All-Star winner this year – stood strong in defence and managed to get up from wing-back to kick a point.
4 Kevin Rafferty (St Eunan’s)
KEVIN CASSIDY once described Kevin Rafferty as the ‘best club footballer in Donegal’ and the St Eunan’s midfielder has made a fine start to the season. In the last couple of years Rafferty has been kept in ice till later in the campaign but under David McGinley he’s certainly enjoying his football and scored the opening goal in Sunday’s 2-15 to 2-7 win over St Michael’s.
5 Aiden McLaughlin (Naomh Padraig Muff and Donegal minors)
THE Donegal minors trailed in the closing stages of Saturday’s Ulster Minor League final against Tyrone in Maghera and needed inspiration – they got it from McLaughlin. After Jason McGee broke through he off-loaded to McLaughlin, who netted to give Donegal a 3-9 to 1-13 win. McLaughlin followed up his heroics in the county shirt by landing two points for his club, Naomh Padraig Muff, in Sunday evening’s Inishowen minor final win over Moville.
6 JD Boyle (Naomh Conaill and Donegal minors)
ON Saturday, Boyle completed an excellent campaign at centre-back for the Donegal minors with a top-class display at number 6 as they took a third Ulster Minor League title in succession. The Glenties man offers Shaun Paul Barrett’s men so much and he displayed his talents to the full in Saturday’s win, when he popped up constantly to cause Tyrone trouble.
7Â Kevin Kealy (Donegal minor hurlers)
THE St Eunan’s midfielder led the way on Friday night as Donegal won the Ulster Minor Hurling Shield with a 3-14 to 3-9 win over Tyrone. Kealy arched over a wonderful point after only 20 seconds and he ended the game with four points, but it was his all-round display that caught the eye.
8 Conor O’Donnell (St Eunan’s College)
IN the Treanor Cup semi-final this afternoon at a windy Garvahey, Conor O’Donnell played a huge part in St Eunan’s 3-10 to 0-3 win over St Ronan’s from Lurgan. The corner-forward scored 1-3 in all, including 1-2 against the wind in the first half – the only St Eunan’s player to score in that period – and then a sweetly-hit 45 and also had a hand in both his team’s second half goals, with Dylan Doogan and Daragh Ellison finding the net.
