THE DEVELOPMENT OF Basketball in the Northwest just got a big boost with the appointment of Niall McDermott, North West Development Officer for Basketball.
The appointment will be funded by Letterkenny Institute of Technology and Basketball Ireland.

McDermott, a well-known coach, player and member of the North Star Basketball club has a fantastic understanding of basketball in the Northwest.
“I have been a basketball player since I was 11 years old,” he said. “I have been involved in basketball administration and coaching for a number of years, I currently coach the Irish Colleges Senior Mens squad and I have a huge passion for sport. This role, as Northwest Development Officer, will see me develop and grow sport in this region. I am excited to see how we can develop basketball at all levels. ”
Speaking on behalf of the Institute, Paul Hannigan, President at LyIT added: “This is a milestone in the development of basketball in this area. I believe it will prove a major boost for the sport in the Northwest. The Institute is delighted to be working closely with the local basketball community and we wish Niall all the best with his endeavours.”
Bernard O’Byrne, Basketball Ireland General Secretary welcomed the appointment of McDermott.
O’Byrne said: “Niall joins a growing team of Development Officers around the country and we welcome him and look forward to his contribution to Basketball in the Northwest.”
