A DONEGAL soccer manager has been given a nine-month suspension by disciplinary chiefs.
Brian Bell, the manager of Inishowen League Premier Division side Quigley’s Point Swifts, has been given the lengthy ban by the Inishowen League.
It is anticipated that Bell and his club will contest the suspension.
At a meeting on Friday night, League chiefs imposed the ban on Bell due to his part in an alleged incident after a game last month.
It was alleged that Bell became involved in an incident with the match referee, Martin McGonigle, following the Jackie Crossan Premier Division game between Culdaff FC and QPS on March 13.
Culdaff won the game at Caratra 5-1, a result that secured survival in the top flight for John McFeely’s team.
It is believed that the Inishowen League investigated claims that Bell entered the referee’s dressing room after the game, where the alleged incident is supposed to have occurred.
On Friday night, the Inishowen League handed down a nine-month ban to the Derry native and informed QPS of the decision in writing.
The club has until tomorrow (Wednesday) to post an appeal, which must be with the Inishowen League by Thursday. The School Field outfit are said to be preparing to file an appeal against the sanction and are expected to submit a case for the defence tomorrow.
