ST JOHNSTON Cricket Club’s Tory Lapsley has been named in the North-West Typhoons team for this year’s inter-provincial series.
Lapsley plays for the Strabane Saints, the ladies team that is an amalgamation of Strabane and St Johnston’s ladies.
Last year, they swept the boards, winning the NWCU Ladies League and Cup double.
Renowned bowler Lapsley (pictured above, front left) was to the fore in those triumphs and also played in the inter-provincial series in 2015.
Strabane Saints were only in their second ever season in 2015, but they defeated Bready by seven wickets in the Cup final and also edged Bready out for the League honours.
The Typhoons play the Dragons on Sunday May 1 at YMCA, Scorchers on May 8 at Merrion, Dragons on Sunday July 3 and Scorchers again at Bready on Sunday July 10, while there is a Twenty20 competition on the weekend of July 16/17 in Leinster.
Cricket very much runs deep in Lapsley’s veins. Her father, Keith, played on the St Johnston senior team that won the Schweppes All-Ireland Senior Cup in 1987; the first time a club from the North-West won the title.
