DONEGAL CAPTAIN MICHAEL MURPHY was on hand to aid with Letterkenny Educate Together National School’s marathon bid today.
Over the course of the next month, students at staff at LETNS are running a marathon.
Each class is running a kilometre a day until they have completed 42km, the length of a full marathon.
Stidents, teachers, SNA and even the principal, Aine Fabisiak, have been wearing their runners to school to complete their ‘K a day’.
Enthusiasm for the project is extremely high and the presence of Murphy, who ran a kilometre with first class pupils, raised it further this morning.
“It’s giving the children a chance to be active in a non-competitive way,” says Nakita Burke, the fifth class teacher behind the initiative.
“The students are having lots of fun and teachers have noticed that the children are more focussed in class when they are being more active.”
The school has completed 10km over the last ten days – only 32k to go!
