WHEN DRUMOGHILL MANAGER Michael Lynch walked into The Moss last night, he had a figure in his head.
Ten points was the magical figure he’d set for his team to win a first Donegal League Premier Division title since 1995.
It puts them on their own at the top, a point clear of Milford United and Drumoghill have a game in hand, while Kildrum are now ten adrift of Drumoghill, with the St Johnston men having two games less played and another game with Drumoghill to come on the final day.
“We were fortunate to get a point,” Drumoghill boss Lynch said last night.
“We definitely were. We were very slow, but we haven’t played in three weeks and that showed.
“When we were on the break, I felt we needed a break, but we were very slow and sluggish. The League has been stop-start this year. We were lucky tonight.
“We were rusty. We haven’t conceded a lot of goals this year and those chances should have been bread and butter.”
He was referring to a quick-fire double by Gareth Colhoun that turned the game in Kildrum’s favour after David O’Carroll shot Drumoghill into the lead earlier in the tie.
Lynch said: “We sat back a bit and gave away a lot of silly free kicks at the edge of the box. We had ourselves under pressure, Kildrum fought really hard and they were coming off the back off a good result against St Catherine’s.”
While his opposite number, Shane Brown, was livid with the refereeing display of Joe McHugh, Lynch opted to sympathise with the official, saying: “Referees have a tough job and they’re out there on their own. It was very hard to look after a game of that tempo.”
