Saturday 9th April will be long remembered by cat 3 member Gabriel Mc Nulty [19].
For, not only did he win the Open competition but he also qualified to represent the club in the knock-out stage of the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open Pro-Am, his playing partner being lady member Marian O’ Sullivan. With a topsy-turvy front nine giving him a mere equal par 18pts, Gabriel took the irons out of the fire and roasted the inward nine with 23pts to record a winning score of 41pts.

Sunday 10th confined competition, played in dry but cold conditions, hosted a tight finish between no less than four of the club’s single figure handicappers with ‘King’ Kenny [8] coming out on top by virtue of a B.O.T.
With a mediocre outward nine returning only 16pts, Kenny showed his fighting qualities to record back-to-back birdies at Settlement [11th], Sheep Hill [12th] and Candalabra [15th] before an unwarranted double bogey at 17th reduced his back nine total to 22pts but still enough to relegate Kieran Sweeney [6] to runner-up spot.
Indeed Kieran’s front nine was the better with a gross 37 shots and 20pts but his birdie at Hunters Home, the par three 13th, just wasn’t enough for the win. In third place was John Doran [7], his 37pts including back-to-back birdies at Cornagill [10th] and 11th but again Aughaninshin [17th] being John’s achillies heel with a double bogey. Gross prize was won by Kevin Rafferty [6] whose card included birdies at 2nd [Glebe], 11th and 12th holes but a double bogey at 6th and a bogey at 13th had him finishing with 31 gross pts.
Open competitions continue on Friday and Saturday with Sunday 17th confined being the first ‘major’ of the season with the club’s Voucher competition. Monday 18th will witness the start of the club’s Murphy Maintenance sponsored matchplay competitions whilst Wednesday 20th Open is sponsored by C & M Embroidery. Friday 22nd hosts the Ladies Club Fundraising Open Classic, any combination, €100 per team.
The club Captains’ Ivan and Jacqueline, President Greg and all members proudly welcome Seamus Mc Monagle as their club PGA Professional .
