AMID THE HYSTERIA at Finn Park late on tonight, Finn Harps manager Ollie Horgan was sent to the stands by match referee Ben Connolly.
Horgan’s side put up a very good fight against St Patrick’s Athletic in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division, possibly even looking the ones most likely to open the scoring but ending up with a 2-1 loss.
Ryan Curran hit the crossbar and the impressive Sean Houston also went close as Harps enjoyed the better of the third quarter and they certainly had St Pat’s feathers ruffled.
A Packie Mailey own goal and then a second, on the break, from Buncrana native Mark Timlin had given the visitors a 2-0 lead before a Kevin McHugh penalty in injury time gave the hosts a fighting chance.
Then, St Pat’s full-back Ian Bermingham turned his back on a throw-in as Horgan threw the ball his way and off went Horgan.
But there were no hard feelings, as Horgan explained: “Ian was wasting time and I threw the ball in. He turned his back on it but we shook hands after and had a laugh at it. There was certainly no animosity there!”
23 mins – Tony McNamee tries to score direct from a corner. Well, maybe he didn’t but it flew over the crossbar and McNamee kicks the corner flag in frustration. FH 0-0 StP
Harps, who went down 1-0 at Eamonn Deacy Park against Galway United on Friday night, now face Bray Wanderers on Friday night in Ballybofey as the fixtures come thick and fast ahead of visits to Cork City and Wexford Youths.
“Once St Pat’s went one up, there’s no better side at counter-attacking,” Horgan added. “We have to move on and recover for Bray again on Friday night.
“Hard luck stories don’t keep you in the division. We’ll take our oil and move on and hopefully will have recovered for Bray. They’re all difficult tasks in this division.”
