DOWNINGS POSTED A good win over Letterkenny Gaels in Division 3 on Saturday evening.

The home team got off to a flying start with six scores in the opening nine minutes. Five scores coming from the accurate boot of Gary Ban McClafferty complimented with a score from Lorcan Connor.

Cormac Cannon then opened the scoring for the visitors and this was followed by a goal from Paddy Doherty after a penetrating run from Conor McBrearty. Gaels midfielder Brendan O’Brien kicked a fine score in the 13th minute to leave the minimum between the sides.
Downings full forward Colin Gallagher extended the Downings lead with a free in the 17th minute. As both teams continued to gain control Gaels half Back Conor Browne found space on the left wing to tap over a good score in the 28th minute, Connor and Gary Bán McClafferty hit two late points to give the hosts a three point cushion at half time.
Carrigart man Oisín Boyce was first to score in the seventh minute of the second half before McBrearty responded for Gaels. The visitors midfielder O’Brien reduced the deficit to two points as the game entered the final quarter. However Gary Bán again came to the rescue with two scores in the 22nd and 24th minute.
As Gaels came in search of scores McBrearty in the 24th and Cormac Cannon in the 29th minute was as close as they came before referee Don Langan blew the final whistle.
