OLLIE HORGAN RETURNS home this evening with his Finn Harps side taking on Galway United in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division, kick-off 7:45pm.
The Salthill native has seen is side make a reasonably competent start to life in the top-flight with seven points from their opening five fixtures, including wins over Derry City and Longford Town.
“We’re only one-seventh of the way through,” Horgan said. “We’ll compete with any team in regards effort, endeavor or work. We’ve 28 games to go. If it ends up in a battle, we’ll battle.”
Tonight, though at Eamonn Deacy Park in Terryland marks the start of a testing month for the Ballybofey side, who have to visit Galway again the in 10 days’ time in the EA Sports Cup as well as having making trips to Cork City and Wexford Youths.
As well as that, there’s a re-arranged fixture against St Patrick’s Athletic this coming Monday and the visit of Bray Wanderers to Finn Park this day week.
“Nobody wanted the game last Friday called off as we’d a week’s preparation into St Pat’s,” Horgan added. “The timing of it on Monday won’t suit us. We’d prefer six games in the Premier than one every fortnight. They’re great lads here. It won’t be for the lack of effort and I can’t ask for any more.
“Galway have serious quality with excellent footballers. I could list the names. We’ve struggled against them since they came back into the league. We’ll have our work cut out. they play attractive football and can score goals. Galway will be overwhelming favourites but we’ll see on Friday.
“We created a number of chances against Longford but we’ll have to do that in Terryland. I think we will improve but it’s a question of how much we can improve. Would I take a point from Terryland? Absolutely.”
