Erne Wanderers 5 Curragh Athletic 1
Erne Wanderers hosted Curragh Athletic in their penultimate game of the season and ran out comfortable winner’s by five goals to one in a one sided encounter.
Erne passed up a host of chances in the first half and had to wait until the 44th minute to open the scoring through Phillip Patton.
The second period was only two minutes old when Barry Mulligan sublimely found the top corner from the edge of the box when Michael Ward teed him up. Erne got a penalty on the hour mark for hand ball and Mulligan buried it into the bottom corner.
Mark Dorrian tapped home the fourth on seventy minutes and Patton got his second ten minutes from time, tapping in at the back post when Ward again set it up. Curragh got a consolation goal in the 90th minute.
Copany Rovers 1 Deele Harps 2
Copany hosted title chasing Deele Harps in sticky conditions in Killowen Park.
Deele were the stronger side in the first half creating a number of chances but found the home team in a stubborn mood and they had to wait until the 41st minute to take the lead.
They doubled their advantage on 43 minutes to lead 2-0 at the break. Copany started slow in the first five minutes of the second half but then took the game to Deele and on 60 minutes Joseph Mc Grory pulled one back for Copany.
Both teams battled through the final 30 minutes but the game finished 2-1 to Deele . Good team performances from both sides.
Ballybofey United 2 Whitestrand United 1
Ballybofey United recorded another victory on Sunday afternoon when Whitestrand United were the visitors to Finnside.
No matter how the games end on the last weekend of the season PH Bonar’s side will finish in 4th position behind Deele, Glenree and Erne. Shaun Mc Gowan got Ballybofey’s first goal and Golden Boot candidate Damien Glackin added another to his tally for the season. Whitestrand host Copany next Sunday and victory will assure them of fifth position regardless of other results.
Dunkineely Celtic 1 Letterbarrow Celtic 2
Dunkineely Celtic brought the curtain down on a very disappointing season with a defeat to near neighbours Letterbarrow. The first half was a fairly tame affair with neither side able to create any chances.
Dunkineely started the second half brightly and took the game to Letterbarrow but failed to make the breakthrough. It was half time substitute for Letterbarrow Jamie Coyle who scored the opening goal from close range after the ball had come back off the crossbar.
The home team continued to press and Conor Shovlin was unlucky not to have scored on 70 minutes when his effort was well saved. Letterbarrow got a second against the run of play when Jamie Coyle again scored from close range after a goalmouth scramble. Dunkineely pulled a goal back on 90 minutes when Conor Shovlin broke through the defence and scored from 12 yards.
Glenree United 2 Eany Celtic 1
The home team finished this match with all three points after a nervy start when they found themselves 1-0 down after 15 minutes when Gerard Simons did well to outmuscle the defender and slot it past the keeper.
Glenree had been causing most of the danger throughout the game but weren’t capitalising on their opportunities. In the 30th minute Colin Gallagher was brought down in the penalty area and Barney Boyce stepped up to score from the spot.
In the second half the home team were out of the blocks quickly and Marty Mc Laughlin came close only for a fine one armed save from the keeper.
The chances were racking up for Glenree and finally in the 74th minute Marty Mc Laughlin rose highest at the back post to knock it down for John McClafferty to slide in and find the back of the net. The away side pushed right away to equalise but the defence stood strong.
John Cunningham came up with a good save in the 84th minute to keep the three points secure for the home side. It all comes down to the last game of the season now for the title and promotion to be sorted. Team effort from both Glenree and Eany.
