Video: Leadership Development for Donegal GAA Club Officers

A MAJOR NEW and exciting training programme for club officers will be delivered in Donegal tomorrow, Saturday, in Jackson’s Hotel, Ballybofey.

The Club Leadership Development Programme (CLDP) aims to provide the principal officers in each Club – namely the Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and PRO – with an opportunity to gain the key knowledge and skills to fulfil their roles in a confident and competent manner.

The Donegal County Committee in conjunction with the GAA’s National Officer Development Committee (NODC) is organising the programme after Donegal was one of the 16 counties to be successful with its application to receive it in 2016.

The Association’s NODC is chaired by Paddy Flood from the Truagh Gaels Club in Co Monaghan while Ruairí Harvey from the Red Hugh’s Club in Killygordon is Secretary to the Committee.  This Committee has spent the last 12 months overseeing the design and delivery of the programme.

Uachtarán CLG, Aogán Ó Fearghail launched the programme back in January and remarked that ‘this much needed initiative which will significantly help club officers who require training, education and continuous support to carry out their roles effectively.’  

Páraic Duffy, Ard-Stiúrthóir CLG, sees the provision of continuous support for club officers as one of the most important priorities for the Association over the next few years and he noted in his Annual Report to Congress that ‘the programme represents a milestone in the training and development of club officers, one that promises to strengthen considerably the management of clubs.’

Since its launch, 60 modules have been delivered in 12 counties with over 700 different officers taking part.  Officers who participate in the programme will learn from vastly experienced Leadership Associates who have completed extensive training last year in Croke Park for delivery of training.
 

Each module lasts for two hours and contains a lot of learning activities to encourage idea sharing, problem solving and networking among club officers.  The following is the agenda for the day:

There is no cost for participating officers and each officer who completes the programme will receive an online certificate of achievement signed by An tUachtarán CLG.

In order to avail of this programme, all Club Secretaries are asked to e-mail Aidín Uí Ghiolláin, Rúnaí CLG Dhún na nGall (secretary.donegal@gaa.ie) as soon as possible to secure places on the programme for each of his/her fellow club officers i.e. Chairperson, Treasurer and PRO.
