DONEGAL ARE HOPEFUL that midfielder Neil Gallagher will be fit to feature in Sunday’s Allianz Football League Division 1 meeting with Monaghan in Castleblayney.
Gallagher missed the weekend’s defeat to Dublin in Croke Park as a result of a back injury that forced him to withdraw at half-time in the game against Roscommon at O’Donnell Park.
The Glenswilly man sustained the injury in training in the week leading up to the Roscommon match and didn’t play for his club on Monday against Naomh Conaill at Pairc Naomh Columba.
Gallagher took a light part in training last night in Convoy.
“Neil has a bit of a back spasm,” Rory Gallagher, the Donegal manager, said.
“He had it through the Roscommon match and it just hasn’t settled down.
“It’s just a wee niggle that flared up. We thought nothing of it at the time, but we just didn’t risk him against Dublin.
“We’ll see how he is come Sunday, but I’d be confident of having him available.”
The Donegal boss is monitoring the progress of Neil McGee and Frank McGlynn, both of whom missed Saturday’s game in Croke Park.
McGlynn hasn’t played in any of the last three games because of a hamstring injury, while McGee sustained a broken nose in the game against Kerry in Tralee.
McGee is also feeling the effects of a hip flexor injury.
“With both Frank and Neil it’s a case of wait-and-see,” Gallagher said.
“Frank didn’t take a full part in training, but he’s recovering well. Neil is working down the country this week so we didn’t have him at training, but hopefully he’ll come through and be ok.”
