LETTERKENNY GAELS, AODH RUADH, Buncrana and Downings posted wins in entertaining anad close-fought games in the AllSportStore.Com All-County Football League Division 3 today.
Conor McBrearty hit 2-5 as Letterkenny Gaels defeated 2015 Intermediate finalists Naomh Colmcille at Pairc na nGael 4-7 to 1-12.
Sean McDonagh hit a goal early in the game for Letterkenny Gaels, who led 1-2 to 0-3 after ten minutes.
At the break, Letterkenny Gaels led 1-6 to 0-7 but the game’s defining moments were early in the second period when McBrearty blasted home the two goals.
That quickfire brace ended the Naomh Colmcille hopes of a comeback, although Willie Gillespie did score 1-4 for Francie Martin’s team. Liam Doherty bagged the fourth Gaels goal.
All the goals came in a cracking second-half in Portsalon where Aodh Ruadh took home the points after a 3-14 to 1-11 win over an understrength Gaeil Fhánada.
Gaeil Fhánada led 0-7 to 0-6 at half-time, but the Ballyshannon men turned the tables in the second half.
David McGurrin was the match winner with 2-2 while Philip Patton helped himself to 1-2.
Seamus Kane, David Dolan and Diarmuid McInerney all scored two point apiece for the visitors.
Gaeil Fhánada had Aidan Heraghty black carded early on while Fergal Friel was sent off in the second half.
Oisin Shiels netted a goal and hit two points with Seamus ‘Nanny’ Friel scoring three points, but Aodh Ruadh took the win.
At Hibernian Park, Buncrana defeated neighbours Burt 1-14 to 1-10.
Oisin O’Flaherty fired home an early goal for Buncrana to lead 1-1 to 0-3, but Burt hit back before half time with a goal by Christoper McDermott.
Conor Harkin was on song for Burt, who led 1-8 to 1-4 at half-time, but Buncrana had the edge in the second half.
Led by Peter McLaughlin at midfield and aided by Oisin Doherty and Odhrán Doherty, The Scarvey men took over with corner-back Mickey Gallagher kicking two points as Buncrana made it two wins from two games.
Gary McClafferty swung over six points as Downings defeated Naomh Bríd 1-11 to 0-9 in a hard-fought game.
McClafferty’s half-a-dozen all came from frees and the goal came from the boot of Patrick McGroddy.
Colin Gallagher hit two points for the winners while Lorcan Connor played his part, scoring a point, with Shane Boyce and Oisin Boyce also on the mark.
Having just returned from injury, Connor could now be in line to feature in Wednesday’s Ulster semi-final against Tyrone with the Donegal Under-21s.
Calum Gallagher top-scored with three points for Naomh Bríd who saw Donegal panelist David Walsh get on the scoresheet as his recovery from a toe injury continues.
