THE MAN WHO saved a young baby from drowning in Buncrana yesterday was Fanad United striker Davitt Walsh.
Walsh, who is from Kerrykeel, played yesterday for Fanad in their 3-1 loss at the hands of Letterkenny Rovers in the Ulster Senior League.

Five people tragically died last night when their car slipped off the pier in Buncrana and were named as 46-year-old Sean McGrotty, sons Mark (12) and Evan (8), his mother-in-law Ruth Daniels (57) and daughter Jodie Lee, 15.
McGrotty’s partner Louise was at a hen party in Liverpool and it was their four-month-old daughter Rioghnach that was saved.
The 29-year-old has played for Finn Harps, Bohemians, Shelbourne, Ballymena United, Lisburn Distillery, Institute and Letterkenny. Walsh also plays GAA for his local club, Gaeil Fhánada.
“When we arrived at the scene, there had been a person on the pier who stripped down and entered the water and took hold of the infant,” an eye-witness called Francis Crawford told Newstalk. “His quick actions definitely saved that child’s life.
“He headed out and came back with a wee baby, he got back in and shouted: ‘Take the baby, take the baby’ – he could barely stand.
“He did the greatest work and had no thought for himself.”
