THE MAGICAL run ended and the dreams of appearing at the Aviva Stadium were dashed as Glengad United bowed out of the FAI Junior Cup.
Pike Rovers 4 Glengad United 0
Shane Byrne’s team had defied the odds in reaching the last eight, but it proved a step too far as Pike – one of the competition favourites and the winners back in 2011 – had too much.
Mike Shiels men took the lead when John Connery’s shot was wonderfully saved by Shaun O’Donnell, only for the ball to come back off Connery and into the net.
In an instant, Pike were two up as Cian Collins fired in off the post from the edge of the box.
Pike were reduced to ten men when Wayne Colbert was sent off in the 28th minute following a clash with Christy Fildara.
Eoin Hanrahan made it three-nil when he headed past O’Donnell early in the second half and Connery bagged his second, and Pike’s fourth, late in the game.
Pike Rovers now face St Peter’s in the semi finals.
