ULSTER SENIOR LEAGUE CHAMPIONS Cockhill Celtic advanced to the next round of the Knockalla Caravans Cup when they defeated Cappry Rovers in Cappry Park.
Cappry Rovers 0-1 Cockhill Celtic
Both teams created numerous chances in the opening minutes with both defences and keepers busy. Cockhill came more into the game as it went on but couldn’t find a way through the home defence.
Cappry’s Aaron Kelly had a great chance in the 37th minute when he broke with only the keeper to beat but he was taken down by the keeper outside the area.
Cockhill got the breakthrough in the forty seventh minute following a free kick when Malachy Mc Dermott scored at the back post with a header. Following this Cockhill put the pressure on in search of the second goal but Cappry held firm and were unlucky not to score themselves.
This was a spirited performance from a Cappry team that are struggling in the Premier Division but with more performances like this one they could pull themselves to safety from the bottom of the table. Darren O’ Leary, Darren Mc Gowan and Rory Dunleavy were best for Cappry. Best for Cockhill were Malachy Mc Dermott and Jason Breslin.
Referee: Joe Mc Hugh.
