GOLFERS FROM ACROSS Donegal gathered at Michael Murphy Sports and Leisure last weekend for the inaugural ‘Donegal Golfer of the Year Par 3 Challenge’.
The in-store event pitted Donegal’s best golfers against each other in a closest to the pin Par 3 Challenge. The winner of the challenge was Otway Golf Club member, Philip Friel.

He won the competition with a shot of 4ft 10inches from the hole. The Ramelton man was presented with a set of custom fitted Callaway XR irons, courtesy of the golf centre at Michael Murphy Sports and Leisure.
Clubs across the county were well represented at the event and competitors travelled from all over Donegal, including Ballyliffin, Buncrana, Otway, Letterkenny, Portsalon, Rosapenna, Murvagh, Nairn and Portnoo, Ballybofey and Stranorlor, Cloughaneely, Cruit Island, Northwest and Buncrana.
“I’d like to thank all of the competitors who made the effort to call in and take part in the challenge,” Michael Murphy said. “It was a great evening and I would like to congratulate the winner, Philip Friel of Otway Golf Club. We’re planning on making this an annual event and look forward to seeing if Philip can retain his title next year.”
