ROSCOMMON HAVE NAMED an unchanged team for Sunday’s Allianz Football League Division 1 game against Donegal.
The Rossies, managed by Kevin McStay and Fergal O’Donnell, go into the game at O’Donnell Park level with Donegal on six points, the teams sitting joint second behind Dublin.
Roscommon have had a flying start to life in Division 1 having beaten Kerry, Cork and Down following an opening day loss against Monaghan.
Last Sunday, Ciaran Murtagh, their captain, scored 1-6 as Roscommon defeated Down 1-12 to 0-6 in Longford.
Experienced defender Seanie McDermott has been around for long enough to know what it takes to play – and survive – in Division 1.
McDermott is playing in the top tier for the first time, but Roscommon have taken 2016 by storm .
“Our main aim was to make sure to maintain Division One status and that’s a big thing for this Roscommon team,” McDermott said.
“That’s where they’ll find their feet and find their progression. I’m delighted to play in Division 1, for the first time in all my years playing for the county.
“People always expect the team that comes up form Division 2 to go straight back down again and the teams in Division 1 are so seasoned. You have these teams playing in Division 1 year-on-year.
“We felt that we had the capabilities of staying in Division 1. Any doubts were put to bed after the Monaghan game. Even though we conceded the game, we came away with a lot of positives and took them to Killarney.”
