LETTERKENNY ATHLETIC CLUB will hold its first race of the new road season on Thursday, March 17th when it stages the St Patrick’s Day 5K around the streets of Letterkenny.
Looking ahead to the event, sponsored by Voodoo, club chairman, Michael Galvin, appealed for as many people in the area to come along and take part.
“This race was established over ten years ago and has been a regular and popular race in the calendar since. The course is challenging in that it sees runners tackling the Port Road twice, but there is also some fast running down the main street and across Pearse Road,” he commented.

“We are asking people of all levels, racers, joggers and walkers to come along and give it a go. We have fixed the race early so that families can come back into town and enjoy the parade in the afternoon,” the chairman added.
“We are also staging some juvenile races at the Market Square when the 5K is wrapped up and again, we are hoping for a big turnout, with the emphasis very much fun and participation,” Mr Galvin said.
Registrations will be taken at the Aura Leisure Centre from 10 am, with the race starting close to the post office on Upper Main Street. The course will see participants completing two loops of the town, finishing at the Market Square after the second loop.
Entry fee is 8 euro and the race will be chipped timed.
