THE DONEGAL YOUTH LEAGUE side bowed out of the FAI Youth Inter League quarter-final at Cork’s hands this afternoon in Drumoghill.
Donegal Youth League 1-3 Cork Youth League
The visitors hit the front in the second minute, which created an uphill task for Donegal almost from the off. The hosts failed to clear a corner from Darren Murphy and Matthew Draper had time to control the ball and hammer it into the net.

John Friel, the Donegal goalkeeper, made two saves then to keep Cork at bay. Firstly he got behind a shot from Ciaran Kearney on the run before keeping out Dean Swords’ free-kick.
Cork were good value for their 1-0 half-time lead, but in the 47th minute Donegal got back on terms. It was a fine goal from Anthony Bogle, who chipped over Owen O’Sullivan in the Cork goal after a pass from Zach Gorman.

Then minutes later, though, Cork went back in front. Jordan O’Regan set up Swords to slot home from eight yards although Donegal claimed there was a high foot in the build up.
On 65 minutes, Cork fashioned a third goal. This time a long ball in got O’Regan away and although his shot was saved by Friel, it rebounded off the forward and rolled into the net.
Donegal squealed for a penalty on 67 minutes when Bogle went down but nothing was given and although Gorman went close for the home team – as substitute Nathan Brown did for Cork – it was Cork who won 3-1.
