AN AMERICAN boxing team is traveling to Donegal next month to face a Donegal selection in a major tournament.
The tournament, which is being run in association with Donegal County Council, has been confirmed in the last few days for April 21st at the Clanree Hotel in Letterkenny.
The American team will comprise members of the Boston Boxing Academy and is being led by Mark Porter, a native of Buncrana.
Porter is well known in the American boxing scene. Since 2012, he has run a very successful annual fundraising ‘Battle of the Bay’ tournament, raising well over $100,000.
Eleven boxers will make the trip, while the Donegal squad will also contain Kelly Harrington from Dublin.
Five support bouts have been lined up for a 16-fight card.
The last time an American team fought in Donegal was in 1973 at The Plaza in Buncrana.
