ST EUNAN’S COLLEGE picked up their second victory in Group B of the Treanor Cup (Ulster Colleges U-15½) with a hard fought win over Aquinas Belfast.
On Friday, the Letterkenny side opened the competition with a 1-10 to 2-5 win over St Patrick’s College from Armagh.
St Eunan’s made two changes to the starting line up from the first group game with Pauric McGettigan and Dylan Doogan in from the start for Cormac Finn and Oran Winston respectively.
defensively early on and it took the College side a while to get their running game going but eventually inroads where been made.
The Aquinas centre-forward was dominating for his side but a switch saw Conor McKinney nullify this threat. Then Michael Gallagher was introduced in the 27th minute for Keelan Margey and Gallagher pointed well from play for the final score of the half, leaving the score St Eunan’s College 0-8 Aquinas 1-1.
The tireless and lively Dylan Doogan scored the first point of the second half to push the advantage out to a five-point margin.
Aquinas hit back with a goal of their own in 42nd minute to leave the score 2-10 to 2-3.
Further changes saw Oran Winston, Keenan Diver and Ronan Dorrian enter the fray for the College side. Two further goals from one Conor O’Donnell and a fortutious effort from Oran Winston sealed the victory for the Letterkenny side.
Good performances on the day from Anthony Gallagher, Daragh Ellison, Shane O Donnell and Dylan Doogan.
This leaves the College – managed by Chris Carr and Colm McFadden – on four points after two games and in a good position with one final group game to play on Tuesday next against Holy Trinity Cookstown.
