THE DONEGAL COMPETITIONS CONTROLS COMMITTEE (CCC) have released the opening five rounds of games for the 2016 All-County Football Leagues.
The 2016 Leagues get underway on Saturday and Sunday March 19/20.
In Division 1, the defending League champions St Michael’s – who won a first Division 1 title in 2015 – begin away to Dungloe on Sunday 20th.
The Donegal SFC winners, Naomh Conaill, are at home to Termon on the opening day while newly-promoted Bundoran host Kilcar and Ardara welcome Glenswilly to Pearse Memorial Park.
Perhaps the game of the day on matchday 1 is the meeting of Gaoth Dobhair and St Eunan’s at Magheragallon.
Milford are back in Division 2 and Danny O’Donnell’s team – who caused an upset yesterday when defeating Gaoth Dobhair in Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta – are at home to Cloughaneely in their opening fixture.
The derby fireworks will spark in Ballybofey as Sean MacCumhaills host Glenfin while relegated Four Masters open up away to Naomh Columba.
Division 3 starts on Saturday March 19 with Urris facing Gaeil Fhánada and Naomh Colmcille – last year’s Intermediate finalists – at home to Naomh Ultan.
Division 4 starts on the same day, Naomh Pádraig Lifford taking on Convoy in a tasty derby.
“With the current good start by the Donegal Senior team in the National League, it could mean qualification for the semi-final on the 9th of April,” Declan Martin, secretary of the CCC.
“If this is the case then the CCC propose to play a matched round of games on the 10th and delay Round 3 to later in the year. Also if Donegal make the NFL League final then we may have to park Round 5 until later in the year. This means we would already be delaying our League year into possibly October.”
