ATHLETICS IRELAND STAGE their annual national awards dinner Saturday evening next in Tullamore.
Based on 2015 performances, Finn Valley Athletic Club and a number of their outstanding young athletes are to be honoured.
The Drifter Cup is awarded to the best track & field club, based on outdoor and indoor results during the year will see Valley retaining it yet another time with club registrar, Castlefinn coach Dermot McGranaghan, stepping up to collect an award as well.
The club had an outstanding season nationally outscoring Leevale, Cork, both indoor and outdoor. Additionally, James Kelly (pictured above) is to receive the award as best young thrower nationally after a record breaking season for the young Royal/Prior schoolboy from St Johnstone.
Finally, Sommer Lecky (pictured above by Kieran Carlin) from Castlederg, Co Tyrone, is a student at Strabane Grammer is the recipient of the outstanding athlete in the county category based on again excellent performances at home and abroad topped off with a PB jump in Georgia at European Youth Olympics, which saw her collect bronze with 1.80 metres.
