THE DONEGAL UNDER-12 SCHOOLBOYS produced a fine second half performance to defeat Cavan-Monaghan in their second outing in the SFAI Inter-League in Gweedore today.
Donegal Schoolboys Under-12s 3-0 Cavan/Monaghan Under-12s
Donegal went down 3-1 against Sligo-Leitrim in their opening fixture at the Showgrounds last month but got back on track today with Adam Carr scoring twice at An Screaban, while John Maxwell’s late third confirmed the three points.
Carr opened the scoring on 10 minutes when he got onto a header from Ryan Creevey and beat Bonnie McKernan in the visitors’ goal.
Oisin Harkin saw a fine effort well saved by McKernan but it was Cavan-Monaghan who shaded the first half.
Josh Shields got in on goal and around Donegal goalkeeper Oisin Farrell but was just too wide and the home defenders managed to get back to defuse the situation.
Dylan O’Reilly also went close for Cavan-Monaghan, who went down 5-0 against Inishowen last month, when he shot wide.
Donegal, though, were the better side in the second half and added two more goals.
On 32 minutes, following a great pass by Rory McGrenra, Ryan Creevy’s excellently improvised flick went just over. Then, on 33 minutes, Carr (pictured above) scored his second when he smashed home after seizing on a kick-out.
Donegal almost scored a third when Andrew McGaughey, who had take over in goal for Cavan-Monaghan at the break, saved from Maxwell following a flowing move.
Then, three minutes from time. Maxwell made it three when he finished well.
