SEAMUS COLEMANÂ WORE the broadest smile at the Britania Stadium in Stoke this afternoon.
The 27-year-old from Killybegs (pictured above courtesy of Everton FC) hadn’t scored for Everton in just short of a calendar year but was on the mark in a 3-0 away win over Stoke City in the Premier League. That, though, wasn’t the reason for his delight after a weekend he and his wife Rachel (nee Cunningham, also from Killybegs) celebrated the birth of their first child, Lilly, on Friday afternoon.
“I’ve had a very interesting 24 hours and a very special 24 hours,” he told Evertontv. “My wife gave birth to a baby yesterday just before two o’clock – Lilly Coleman – so there’s no secret as to who that was dedicated to today.
“It’s funny how these things happen. It’s happened to numerous players and you just get that feeling that you are going to score that goal. It was great seeing what my wife went through yesterday and how proud I am of her. You have to go out on the pitch and enjoy them moments and to score the goal as well was special. It was a very special 24 hours.”
