FINN HARPS are to install a new crush barrier at the Town End to increase Finn Park’s capacity ahead of the new SSE Airtricty League season.
Newly-promoted Harps open their campaign on March 4 with a mouth-watering north-west derby against Derry City in Ballybofey.
That game is expected to sell out and Finn Park will now be able to cater for an additional 600 spectators thanks to the new barrier, the cost of which has been sponsored by Bonnar Engineering in Letterkenny.
“It’s not something that is necessary for licencing, but it’s something that gives us more flexibility at matches,” Harps’ Infrastructure Co-Ordinator, Trevor Gordon, said.
Finn Park was at maximum capacity for Harps’ promotion-relegation play-off against Limerick FC in November.
Gordon said: “Crush barriers are standard on terraces now. It’s one barrier that will go all the way across the Town End terrace.
“It’ll give us scope for another 600 people and it will take the overall capacity to around 4,500.”
Gordon thanked Bonnar Engineering, who will design, manufacture and install the barrier and the works will be completed in time for the opening game of the 2016 season.
