LETTERKENNY INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY’S opponents in the Colleges’ and Universities Football League Division 1 final will be Dundalk Institute of Technology.
Shane Byrne’s LyIT side came through an epic semi-final 5-4 after extra-time on Wednesday against IT Carlow B to seal their final place.
The winners of the final, which is pencilled in for the week after next, will play in the Premier Division next season.
LyIT were pegged back on three seperate occasions and taken to extra-time before Anthony Appiah scored the winner. Dean Larkin and Peter Doherty had earlier gotten on the scoresheet with McVeigh scoring in normal time and in the extra period.
IT Carlow trailed on four separate occasions but were 2-1 up at a stage when Ryan Murray and an own goal put them in front. Murray would make it 3-3 before Stephen Lawless tied it up at 4-4.
Carlow did briefly lead 2-1 after Ryan Murray and an OG cancelled out LyIT’s advantage. Murray would score again later in the game along with Steven Lawless on the mark.
Yesterday at Oriel Park, Dundalk IT won through to the final when Ciaran Cluskey-Kelly scored an 85th minute winner against Maynooth University B, who had led before Conor McDonald levelled.
