MARK FARREN, the former Derry City and Finn Harps footballer, has died following a battle with cancer.
The Greencastle native (33), who is Derry City’s all-time leading goalscorer, passed away overnight.
Early in 2015, Farren was diagnosed with a Grade Four brain tumor – the third time in six years that he had received a brain tumor diagnosis.
On Christmas Eve 2008, Farren first learned that he had a Grade Two brain tumor.
Successful surgery in Liverpool meant that Farren – the PFAI Player of the Year in 2005 – could resume his football career with Derry City.
He went on to surpass Liam Coyle’s goalscoring record at the Candystripes and scored 113 times in 209 appearances for the Brandywell-based club.
