ANOTHER GOLD medal is winging its way back to Donegal from the European Jiu-Jitsu Championships.
Ramelton man Brian Coyle, who is the head instructor with Rilion Gracie Ireland, won a gold medal this afternoon.
In the Pavilhão Multiusos de Odivelas, Coyle won gold in the Masters 1 section, competing at brown belt in the light featherweight division.
Coyle overcame Charles Andrew Boyer from Nantes in France by submission in his semi-final.
In the final, Coyle was equally on top with another win by submission, this time defeating Sweden’s Kim Emanuel Johnsson Ekerwald.
Coyle is the second Donegal man to win a gold – and the third Donegal man to get a medal at the European Championships.
On Wednesday, Laghey’s William Timoney won a gold medal and Convoy’s TJ McMenamin is coming home with a bronze, but there was no joy for Ramelton’s Mairead Coyle – Brian’s sister – or Bundoran’s Gavin Bowe, who also competed.
