FINN VALLEY ATHLETIC CLUB high-jumper Sommer Lecky got her season off to a flier in Glasgow today.
The 15-year-old from Castlederg, Co Tyrone, jumped 1.80 metres at an indoor meet in the Scottish City – which was better than the 1.74-metre standard to seal her place in the European Youth Championships, which will be held in Tbilisi, Georgia, this July.
Last July, Lecky (pictured above with her coach Niall Wilkinson by Kieran Carlin) was a bronze medal winner at theEuropean Youth Olympic Festival, also in Tbilisi.
Lecky’s jump was just short of the required 1.83 metres needed for the IAAF World Junior Championships that will take place in Bydodczcz in July.
Another Finn Valley member, Oisin Gallen, was also in action today. Gallen finished eighth junior and 11th overall in the Antrim International Cross-County.
