Letterkenny AC member and Olympian Brendan Boyce will open his 2016 season in France this weekend.
Brendan flew out to Paris today with his training partner Robert Heffernan and both are due to compete this Sunday in the provincial qualifier.
Boyce spent a short time at home with his family and friends at Christmas, before setting off on December 29 to train in the Canaries and Almeria.
This weekend’s race will be the first in a series of races for Boyce as he plans to compete in Bratislava in the European Permit Indoor Meet and then the National Irish Indoors in Athlone at the end of February.
“December is a great time of year to get away,” Boyce said this week. “I always find it difficult to keep routine around Christmas time so it’s good to refocus and keep the mind on training. I’m looking forward to this weekend’s race and I’m also looking forward to the Indoors at the end of February.
“I secured Olympic qualification last season, so it’s given me an opportunity to try and improve my speed and experience to top level competition early this year. Once the indoors are finished, I’ll turn my attention to the outdoor season and I’m aiming to finish in the top 10 at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro come August 19.”
