AFTER THEIR BRUISING and blood-filled battle on Saturday night in Las Vegas, Joseph Duffy and Dustin Poirier have both been given medical suspensions.
In spite of his win, it is Poirier who has been handed the lengthier suspension.
The Louisiana native, who took a majority decision win in an enthralling, if grimacing lightweight bout against Duffy at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, has provisionally been put out of competitive action until July 2 by the Nevada State Commission.
Poirier would be permitted to return earlier were his fractured nose cleared by a doctor.
He has been given a minimum suspension until February 17 and can have no contact in training until February 2.
Poirier had blood gushing from his nose throughout a fight he won 30-26 30-27 30-27.
Duffy’s left eye was badly swollen after taking a punishing from Poirier and the Burtonport man is out of competitive action until February 2 while the Commission have ruled that he can have no contact in training until January 14 ‘due to lacerations’.
