MICHAEL MURPHY SAYS Donegal go into 2016 with ‘huge belief’ that they can again compete for Gaelic football’s big honours.
Captain of the county since 2011, Murphy lifted Sam Maguire in 2012 and was skipper for three victorious Ulster finals.
“Representing Donegal is one of the best honours you can ever do,” Murphy told Donegal Sport Hub ahead of his 100th game.
“When you do that you have to give it your absolute all. If you do that you hope it’ll lead to a bit of success. We have huge belief in the group we have here.”
2015 ended in disappointment with a defeat to Monaghan in the Ulster final followed by a loss to Mayo in the All-Ireland quarter-final.
But as the calendary changes, Murphy speaks with optimism: “We have a set of principles that we stick to. We know ourselves from that simple group of principles of hard work, being honest and doing things the right way when people aren’t doing things right.”
