Gweedore Celtic Youths left a blustery Triagh-a-Locha with all three points this afternoon in the Donegal Youth League.
Fanad United 1 Gweedore Celtic 3
There was little action in the opening minutes as both team struggled to cope with the conditions.
Fanad did have the first clear chance after 15 minutes when Darren McElwaine cut in from the left and his shot flew just over.
Fanad took the lead in the 17th minute after Paddy Carr’s corner was met by Tiernan Cushnan who’s powerful head gave the goalkeeper no chance.
Gweedore hit back with two goals in the space of a minute. The first came in the 21st minute when Connor Boyle capitalised on some hesitancy in the Fanad defence to power through and place the ball beyond Blaney.
A minute later a ball into the box held up in the wind and Michael Roarty pounced to score.
Gweedore added to their lead in the 37th minute when Roarty’s cross-cum-shot was finished to the net by Boyle for his second of the game.
As conditions deteriorated at the start of the second half, referee Ed Moore was forced to take the players off the pitch for a brief period.
There were very little chances created by either side in the second half as the game got very scrappy.
