CIARA DOOGAN HAS been named as Cycling Ireland’s Junior Female Rider of the Year at the annual awards ceremony in Dublin on Saturday night.
The Gortahok native (pictured above courtesy of UCD Sport) finished in 58th place at the Women’s Junior Road Race at the UCI World Road Championships in Richmond in Virginia, USA, in September.
A month beforehand, the 17-year-old who studies at UCD produced a fine ride to finish 25th in the Women’s Junior Road Race at the European Road Championships in Tartu, Estonia. It was her first major international road race championships.
That same month, August, the Errigal Cycling Club member was the spectacular winner of both the time trail and the road race at the Junior National Cycling Championships in Cong, Co Mayo.
Tommy Lamb, former chair of Cycling Ulster, was on hand to congratulate her and wish her every success in 2016.
