Milford, Glenfin, Cloughaneely and Aodh Ruadh advanced to the semi-finals of the Intermediate B Championship at the weekend – here’s how they did it.
Milford 3-12 Naomh Columba 0-6
Milford’s reserves advanced to the semi-finals of the Intermediate B Championship thanks to a routine win over Naomh Columba at O’Donnell Park.
Milford had 15 points to spare as they coasted past Glen.
Two goals late in the first half, by Marty Doyle and Ciaran McHugh, blitzed Naomh Columba and gave Milford a healthy 2-7 to 0-4 half-time lead.
Before then, it had been pretty tight, but the goals, scored in quick succession, put the game beyond Naomh Columba.
Doyle slotted home his second and Milford’s third early in the second half to power Milford home.
Colin McNelis (2), Ronan O’Hare and Jamie McNern hit the Glen points in the opening half, while John Kelly and Colin McNelis registered in the second half.
Glenfin 4-7 St Naul’s 0-4
Glenfin had two points to spare at half-time, but blasted in a stunning 3-2 in the opening eight minutes of the second half.
The game was over as a contest by then.
The opening goal was a calamity as the St Naul’s keeper fumbled the ball before it rebounded off a defender and into the net.
Matthew McGinley and Stephen McGlynn netted twice in a minute.
McGinley added two points and it was game over.
Ross McDermott was on the mark with Glenfin’s fourth goal late in the game.
Liam McGroarty hit three points for St Naul’s, while McDermott helped himself to three first-half scores for the winners.
Cloughaneely 5-5 Gaeil Fhánada 1-13
Sean McBride helped himself to a hat-trick to steer Cloughaneely Reserves into the Intermediate B semi-finals.
Cloughaneely went goal crazy to see off Gaeil Fhánada in a cracking game at O’Donnell Park.
Their opening goal saw Ronan Cannon fist past Seamus McAteer, the Gaeil Fhánada goalkeeper.
Cloughaneely got a second goal when McBride hammered home.
Cloughaneely led 2-2 to 0-6 at half-time.
McBride netted his second goal as he beat McAteer at the near post.
Gaeil Fhánada stayed in touch and, midway through the second half, Fergal Friel collected a long ball in from Shaun McGovern and applied the finish.
Gaeil Fhánada were kept in the hunt with the ever-green Marty McAteer getting nine points in all.
It was anyone’s game, but McBride soon struck gold.
McBride fired home for his hat-trick and Cloughaneely had time for a fifth goal, as Eamon McHugh popped up to score.
Aodh Ruadh 3-10 Buncrana 1-7
