A DONEGAL soccer club has suspended activities due to what it has described as ‘a spike in positive Covid-19 tests’ in the area.

The senior team’s season in the Donegal Junior League Division Two has already concluded.
In a statement released today, the Killygordon-based Curragh Athletic said: “It has come to our attention that there has been a spike in positive Covid-19 tests in our area.
“Although at present there is no positive cases within our club that we have been made aware of, we as a club have made the decision to suspend all underage activities until the 24th of August to help prevent the spread of virus in our area.
“This wasn’t an easy decision or one that the club has taken lightly but the safety of our club members and community in general is of our upmost priority.”
On Wednesday, it was confirmed that there were five new coronavirus cases reported in Donegal in the one day – it was the highest daily increase in the county since April.
This follows the decision of the Donegal Women’s League last week to suspend all games at all grades due to a positive Covid-19 case within one of its member clubs, who also suspended its activity. The Donegal Women’s League will return to action this coming Monday evening.
Three GAA clubs in Donegal – Naomh Colmcille, Naomh Conaill and Cloughaneely – have temporarily halted activities as a precaution in recent weeks.
