THE ST EUNAN’S COLLEGE Alumni was layed in glorious sunshine on the Letterkenny Golf course that was manicured to the highest standard.
Greg Cullen, home from Germany, started the 2016 Alumni in motion. The competition has grown every year with new players from the local area and other parts of Donegal as well as Trim, Kilkenny, Dublin, London and Germany
Kevin Rafferty, the 1999 student, had a great round and was a worthy winner playing off 7 handicap he scored 41 points.
Two early birdies at the 2nd and 4th set up a strong front nine on 23 points. and he finally came in with a solid 41 points. Kevin received the Alumni Trophy and 1st prize sponsored by Michel McGinley who every year has supported the Alumni and with his friends Fr Neal Carlin and Sean Ferriter they have many stories of their days in the College.
John G Doherty – the 1972 representative – also came in with a fine round of 40 points. A solid performance of 20 points. on each nine set up his score. This was his second time as runner up. John has certainly given the Alumni Trophy a good run.
In 3rd place youth took its place as Rory Blaney scored 39 points. with a solid back nine securing third place over a number of players on the break of tie. Seamus Patton, one of the players of the 1986 All Ireland Soccer team who celebrated the 30th anniversary of their won last week, had an excellent gross score of 34 points.

1940’s Leonard Roarty 30 points.
1950’s Ken Sharpe 37 points.
1960’s Anthony Delap 33 points.
1970’s James Mc Fadden 36 points.
1980’s Diarmaid Doherty 37 points.
1990’s Aiden Friel 39 points.
2000’s Pauric Mc Granaghan 37 points.
Best Past Teacher Jim O’ Sullivan 35 points.

In the visitors sections which were strongly supported by parents and friends it was clean sweep for the Daly family.
Hugo Daly won the first visitor with a splendid score of 40 points, followed by Tommy Daly on 37 points. In the Ladies section Eileen Daly won first place on 34 points. followed by Ruth Daly on 32 points.

Shane Blaney won the first ever Youth Alumni playing great golf on the day.
Shane, a young fifth year student, had a great score of 47 points. He went around in 7 over and was delighted with his great victory. Another new player Conor Coady was second place on 36 points – Conor will sit his Leaving cert this week -and in third the improving Philip Cassidy. He’s a fifth year who is back to his best again scoring 35 points.
The Alumni Committee of Edward Harvey, Cathal Roarty and Niall O’ Donnell would like to thank all who helped in the organization and administration throughout the day.
[adrotate group=”68″]The Letterkenny Golf Club for their hospitality and a course in great condition. Brown’s restaurant for their hospitality and the beautiful food served all day. A special mention for Kieran Mc Kelvey who gave of his time throughout the day making sure everything ran smoothly. Liam Wiseman and his team making sure the scores were correct and winners were awarded their prizes by 10.30 pm.
Thanks to Derek Doherty and Gerald Harvey for setting up the new database and Pauric O’ Donnell for all his work throughout the year especially on the St Eunan’s College website that includes the Alumni Association.
